Last week the BBC announced that that it will start linking to other broadcasters' programmes from iPlayer. And a month ago, it also said that it would aim to double its click-throughs to external sites across the board.
I spent my last few months at the BBC making the case for a version of this, more than a year ago. At the time I wasn't sure that this would ever see the light of day, and learning that it will brought a flush of fatherly pride to my face. This is good for audiences, good for the industry and good for the BBC.
Of course this is not all me, or even mainly me. People had been pushing along similar lines long before I got involved, and others took it on after I left. I just gave this a big push when it needed one. A toast to everyone involved, known and unknown.
